Alibi Jewelry, now open less than a year, is located in the heart of the Nolita area of NYC.  Owner, Jo Liu, took her love of jewelry from the online  world to a setting where she could showcase her handmade collections, as well as house other jewelry designers in the making.

As you step into the quaint shop, it feels like time has taken you back to the 19^th century of a Victorian boudoir.  Glass cases framed in ornate-brushed gold line one side of the wall with jewelry daintily displayed inside them.  On another side, a large white armoire showcases jewelry by various designers behind each window pane.  In a corner, an oversized wooden jewelry box holds little trinkets such as a pocket watch that will make you feel like you’ve just discovered Grandma’s finest jewelry. Much of the jewelry is delicate and dainty, many of them sliver and gold plated necklaces with unique charms dangling from them.  There are even some edgier pieces like the “Bad Ass Elegance Knuckle Duster” ring and “Vampire Teeth Duster” aka grills. Now that’s something you can sink your teeth into!

Selling really well for the summer 2010 season is body jewelry. Their top seller is multi-chain ear cuffs along with chain arm and shoulder pieces. Some designs are exclusively made for the store by New York designers.  You can also shop online and find new pieces and promotion offers.

So how did Jo Liu come up with the name?  Instead of feeling guilty for a purchase, you don’t have to feel guilty about this one…in essence no one has to know.  It’s between you and the jewelry, and the jewelry will be your “alibi”.
