Are we surprised that when Glamour Magazine was looking for honorees to be 2009’s “Back On Top Glamour Woman of the Year” they settled on Rihanna? Amongst 10 other amazing women that were recognized by the publication at New York’s Carnegie Hall, the young star was bestowed this great honor because of her humanity in taking her own personal life experiences and hardships over the past year and making them positive inspiration pieces for young girls around the world. As supermodel Iman presented Rihanna’s award, she referred to the domestic violence incident and said that she is “now even more impressed with [Rihanna's] dignity and courage.”
Though Rihanna’s humanitarian work is still in its infantcy stages, but growing daily, her sense of fashion and stylish confidence is full grown. The singer has been on the good side of fashion discussion for the better part if not all of 2009, and seems to want to continue that trend. She showed up in an amazing ivory Stephane Rolland gown and Cartier and H. Stern jewelry, to the delight of all. As apart of her acceptance speech she thanked Jay-Z, her mother, her grandmother, her best friend (Melissa), and of course her stylist (Mariel), all of which have helped her blossom into the young giving, stylista we have today.
10 other women were honored for being just as extraordinary and inspirational in their own respective fields including Maria Shriver (The Dynamo), Stella McCartney (The Designer), Amy Poehler (The Entertainer), Marissa Mayer (The Visionary), Serena Williams (The Athlete), pediatrician Jane Aronson (The Guardian Angel), Susan Rice (The Peacemaker), Euna Lee and Laura Ling (The Journalists), The Women of Iran’s One Million Signature Campaign (The Activists) and Maya Angelou (The Poet). Michelle Obama also received special recognition at the ceremony. All of the reciepients will be on the cover of the December issue, which will be available on November 10th, 2009. Congrats ladies!
