Project Runway FINALE: Part One

CONGRAT’s contestants! The four of you are going to be designing for fashion week! But only Seth and Emilio have secured their spots in the top three. Mila and Jay still have a lot to prove and will be going head-to-head to in order to show their collection in fashion week. What a thrill! Of course Tim goes to each of the designer’s homes to see their progression and give them some critiques. Some critiques were received a tad more graciously than others but overall no tears or screams from any of Tim’s comments, what a pity.

Seth Aaron is the first to receive the visit and is really into his collection with well over a handful of completed looks. He’s definitely going for the gold and wants to “stomp the competition.” He is looking to show a grand total of 20 pieces for fashion week but has unexpected feed back from dear ’ole Tim, who basically says we’ve seen it so change it! YIKES and back to square one for our dark and edgy designer who’s already spent most of his money and time. Next, Emilio Sosa gets his visit. Emilio’s inspiration was color (obviously) “spray painted brocade,” turquoise, and red…umm. Of course Tim didn’t agree with his ideas and Emilio greatly defended his choices but this isn’t surprising since both have made it clear throughout the season that their tastes are polar opposites.

Mila receives Tim with open arms in rainy LA. Shadows were the inspiration to her collection. So lots of black and white with almost no color is what the collection is expected to consist of. Mila may have fallen in love with her fabrics but Tim feels they exude a “matronly” vibe! So spicing it up is what Mila needs to do. Lastly, Tim previews Jay’s collection who we think has the best inspiration. A hybrid of Geisha and Samurai! The potential for this collection is amazing if only Jay’s designs were a little more organic and a little less forced. Luckily all the designers seem to have great families and a strong support system which means the three that lose will have plenty of shoulders to cry on.

The Westin suite of course is gorgeous but sadly either Mila or Jay will not be spending more than one night in the Hotel’s signature heavenly bed. Both immediately have to present their collection to the judges the following morning after a quick three hour fitting with their models while sharing a cramped workspace! Mila feels the heat after noticing the color that Jay has in his collection. She should have thought of that a few weeks ago before heading back to NY, but we can give her some credit when she thinks up a way of adding color through makeup. At the judging, both designers were asked to show their collections top three pieces. Mila didn’t make the best impression; the judges felt they’ve seen it from her, there was no shock value, and it was too retro.  Her accessories were quite wonderful and were noticed. Jay on the other hand was given better reviews. His modern designs and details were applauded however, he needs to edit, edit, edit! And therefore he’s OUT. We cannot say we agree with this decision but we are sure that this isn’t the last we will be seeing of Jay. Seth, Emilio and Mila will face off at fashion week!
